City Care's Nationwide Response Capability
As a national organisation with 1250 staff and 15 branches around New Zealand, City Care is able to support our clients in an emergency situation. We are able to mobilise staff from around our various locations to where they are needed as was the case following the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes.
During both the September 2010 and February 2011 Canterbury earthquakes, City Care proudly worked alongside Christchurch City Council and other contractors on emergency response activities. At the height of the earthquake, approximately 1250 City Care employees and subcontractors (undertaking work on behalf of City Care) worked tirelessly to bring essential services back to the people of Christchurch.
Response work after both earthquakes included:
- Repairs to the water and wastewater network
- Management of water tankers
- Bypass pumping
- Pumping into rivers
- Temporary water pipelines
- Pumping out manholes
- Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) work on sewer system
- Closing bridges and roads
- Silt clearance
- Working with consultants to scope repair work
- Major repairs to make roads safe and trafficable
- Co-ordination of silt clean up from private properties
