HEALTH AND SAFETY
Continually improving our health and safety record continues to be a major focus for City Care. We run an award-winning health and safety awareness programme and provide extra health checks for our people.
Behave Safe
City Care's award-winning, behavioural-based health and safety programme, ‘Behave Safe', has positively transformed the way we approach health and safety within the company. The unique programme, launched in 2005, promotes safe behaviour by encouraging and facilitating a positive culture of health and safety awareness so that everyone who works at City Care feels comfortable looking out for the safety of themselves and their workmates.
ACC Partnership Programme
In November 2007 City Care entered the ACC Partnership Programme. The Partnership Programme encourages employers to take responsibility for their own workplace health and safety and injury management. Being involved in the ACC Partnership Programme allows employers to raise the level of workplace health and safety management and consequently minimise the costs of work-related injuries.
Joining the Programme represents a major positive step forward for City Care in terms of establishing stronger management systems on our journey to improve the management of health and safety amongst our workforce.
The ACC Partnership Programme encourages City Care to take a more active role in preventing injuries. It enables us to have direct involvement in managing the consequences of workplace injuries or illnesses from the moment an incident occurs, through to claims, compensation and rehabilitation. City Care uses a third-party assurer to assist with injury and claims management.
Benefits from the Programme will emerge over a period of time as management procedures have impact. Initially, the programme elevates City Care to a higher level by putting greater rigour around the management of health and safety within the workplace.
Hearing Checks
As noise is a recognised hazard in our industry, City Care organises hearing monitoring and ear muff checks on an annual basis. This monitoring is an important part of keeping our people safe and healthy at work. City Care has achieved positive results in terms of minimising noise-induced hearing loss in our workforce over the past two years through undertaking this monitoring.
Skin Spot Checks
City Care recognises that UV from sunlight can be a hazard for some of our employees. In addition to ensuring our field staff have access to sunhats and sunscreen, City Care holds annual skin spot clinics.
