Home ground advantage

It is our pleasure to yet again place on record our appreciation to Sam Goodwin for the high standard of work he continues to produce on our wickets at Ken Maunder Park. He clearly takes a pride in his work and we want him to know that we appreciate the time and effort he puts into making our home ground a venue where conditions are conducive to good cricket being played. The same should also be said of Peter Watkins who obviously takes a pride in his work when cutting the outfield.

Sam is without doubt a committed and skilled groundsman and we regard ourselves as fortunate indeed to have him working on our wickets. He has the respect of our players not only for his expertise but also for the interest he takes in the club.

Please convey these sentiments to those concerned and we look forward to another good season in 2016-17.

Helping young women achieve their dreams

GirlGuiding New Zealand would like to extend our huge thanks to City Care for your sponsorship of the recent CPIT workshops for over 300 girls aged 12-13 attending our Jamboree [Christchurch, January 2016].

The girls were given the choice to attend one of four workshops which focused on engineering and architecture, science, ICT and sports science. The programme was designed to give an insight into career options that do not traditionally have a high percentage of women in the workforce. We appreciate that overlooking such social traditions and encouraging young women to achieve their dreams is something City Care strongly supports alongside our organisation.

These sessions were a huge success and one of the many highlights of the Jamboree programme. Thank you once again for making a difference to the lives of these young girls, broadening their knowledge and inspiring them to achieve their dreams!

Tauranga Tornado Response

One-in-100-year flooding in Dunedin

Now the waters have receded and before I get bogged down in the frenzy of the coming week, I wanted to take a moment and personally thank every one of you that have been involved in the flood response and relief efforts. Our staff and contractors have been exceptionally committed to giving the best possible service in extremely difficult conditions, especially those that have been personally affected by flooding.

Dog and owner flood rescue

It was just like a waterfall at the back of my house ... it was horrible, and I had to carry my dog [Kaya] around. Emergency response staff from the New Plymouth District Council and City Care went above and beyond the call of duty and relentlessly tried to find somewhere where I could stay and keep Kaya with me. I can't thank them enough.

Easter weekend deluge

Just a quick note to say thank you to your team for their assistance last Thursday night and for the balance of Easter Weekend. The weather was much worse than expected and your team did a fine job protecting residents' properties where possible.

Because your team does their work in the wet, the cold and the dark - others (myself included) can enjoy a relatively quiet long weekend.

City Care and Ministry of Social Development Partnership

Together we have developed two very successful Skills for Industry programmes that have resulted in many people commencing long term rewarding careers. These programmes have seen over 150 [previously unemployed] people go on to make a better life for themselves and their families.

Success has also come in a much broader sense in that we have taken the programme model that you helped develop and now use it across other pre-trade programmes that are being delivered throughout the country.
