In awarding the contract to maintain the road network in the north of the city to Citycare, Council has raised the bar in its expectations of service delivery.
City Services General Manager David Adamson said, "The new arrangements encourage contractors to take action before issues arise, particularly seasonal things like filling in potholes or clearing away fallen leaves."
This new approach plays to the strengths of Citycare, and the road maintenance team welcomes the opportunity to take more ownership of the city's northern road network.
Citycare's road maintenance manager Grant Bennett said, "our team takes huge pride in their work and they're looking forward to contributing more proactively in keeping the road network performing at its peak."
The new contract starts on 1 October 2017 for an initial term of three years, and covers the city's northern area from Waimairi through Fendalton, Harewood, Papanui, Innes, Burwood, Southshore and New Brighton.
