Navigate Initiative

The Navigate Initiative is a ground breaking new partnership, between the community and the Department of Corrections, to run an intensive reintegration unit inside the prison wire. The unit offers holistic reintegration support to prisoners to improve health and well-being, increase community connections and ultimately reduce re-offending after their release. Managed through Pathway - a charitable Trust that aims to give people an opportunity at a fresh start through prison reintegration, employment, accommodation and affordable housing - the initiative is being funded by a community investment model with “Say Yes” at the heart of the campaign.

Launched in Christchurch this week, Citycare is proud to be associated with this programme. Speaking at the launch on Wednesday 3 July Nige Cottingham, Executive General Manager – Strategy and Growth highlighted the alignment between the Navigate Initiative and the commitment Citycare has to the Community Guardians programme.

“Both programmes are focused on building stronger social capital and communities that care and each initiative lends significant support to training and upskilling people to enable them to enjoy value and recognition in the communities they live in, so the two programmes dovetail together really well and we look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with the Pathway team”.
