City Care is committed to the continued development of a highly skilled workforce. We have a company-wide staff development programme which ensures training is provided in required skill areas.
City Care actively encourages all staff to participate in career-related training and trades-based training including fully funding the training. City Care also regularly provides additional training in areas such as computer skills, first aid, site safe and traffic management.
City Care's award-winning Pre-Apprentice Work Skills Programme continues to be a key social initiative for our company. The programme operates in Christchurch and Tauranga for youth aged between 16-21. During the course of a year, trainees participate in a series of rotational placements covering the variety of trades available at City Care.
The programme focuses on the development of life skills and a strong work ethic, as well as career pathways within the contracting industry. Participants learn goal setting, communication and teamwork skills, conflict and stress management and budgeting skills. Applications open in October each year.
Management Training Programmes
City Care recognises that, in addition to possessing the technical skills required to understand the business and perform effectively, staff in supervisory or management roles need to have appropriate management skills. New appointees to management roles are given opportunities to develop skills in each of the core areas through enrolment in appropriate training courses and seminars. Further development needs are identified during the annual performance appraisal process and incorporated into individual training development plans for each manager.
Training may be scheduled either in response to changes in the demands of the role, or as part of career planning.
